Landslide
by C.R.M. Nilsson

Fleetwood Mac’s Landslide plays from the radio and she hums along as she sweeps the floor. It’s late in the day. Nearly time to close. She might have to stay late today; ever since Maja left there’s been more to do in the store. She misses Maja.

Her humming transits into singing: “I’m getting older too.”

The bell chimes. Slightly embarrassed to be caught singing, she turns to greet the costumer. She almost drops the broom. For one dizzying moment she thinks she’s hallucinating.

He’s older and thinner. She hasn’t seen him in ten years.

He stares at her shyly.
